Description
Mechanism of action, CUTANIA® Skin Control Wipes are highly effective wipes
infused with a unique combination of antiseptic, soothing and
healing, for dogs, cats, exotic animals and horses. Their combination
of active ingredients, with a synergistic effect, makes them especially effective
in the treatment and prevention of Malassezia dermatitis. In addition, they promote
regeneration and reduce inflammation of the damaged epithelium. The presentation
in wipes helps to clean and remove debris and exudates from
skin lesions, promoting the action of its active ingredients.
* Boric Acid is a weak acid with drying action, a characteristic
which makes it particularly useful in lesions such as moist eczema or
Dermatitis of the skin folds. It has also been shown to be effective against infections
by Malassezia. One study concluded that boric acid was as effective as
Topical antibiotics in the treatment of human otitis externa (Rw. Slack,
1987). In dogs, there are in vitro and in vivo studies that prove its effectiveness
against common pathogens such as Malassezia spp, Staphylococcus intermedius,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc. (Ce. Benson, 1998; Ln.”,”Gotthelf et Se. Young, 1997;
Rj. Bassett et al, 2004). The mechanism of action of boric acid is not known.
Well, it has been proposed that boric acid can remove essential substrates
for”, Malassezia or inhibit the ability of yeasts to carry out their
metabolism.
* Acetic Acid has been used for hundreds of years
years for the treatment of ear and urinary tract infections, among others. It is a
weak acid with antibacterial, degreasing and deodorizing action. It has been
used successfully in human medicine as a treatment for infections
hospital-acquired Pseudomoas aeruginosa infections (Najoba et al 2008), and it has been observed that
It has good activity against this bacteria at concentrations from
0,166% (Fraise, 2016). On the other hand, its effectiveness has been proven in the
treatment and prevention of yeast otitis, at a concentration between
0,5 and 5%. However, its effect does not seem to be related only to the
decrease in p
H, since other acidifying products were not as
effective (Halsted, 2015).
* Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) is a
plant of the Liliaceae family. Its succulent leaves have been used
for centuries for its healing and therapeutic properties, especially for
Its healing, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. It contains 75
potentially active components, mainly glycoproteins, anthraquinones,
saccharides and other substances of “low molecular weight. Some studies indicate
which is capable of reducing the healing time in wounds and burns in
dogs and rats (Choi, 2014; Hosseinimehr 2010). It is believed that the "glycoproteins"
They are the main component involved in the healing effects, promoting
the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts and keratinocytes. On the other hand
On the other hand, Aloe vera reduces the levels of thromboxane A2, thromboxane B2 and
prostaglandin 2, which cause vasoconstriction and platelet aggregation.
It is suspected that this action increases perfusion to the dermis, reducing
risk of tissue loss due to ischemia. It has been suggested that inhibition of
The arachidonic acid pathway via cyclooxygenase is responsible for its effects
anti-inflammatories.
* Chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) is a plant
medicinal plant from the Asteraceae family, used ancestrally by its
Multiple effects. It has antimicrobial and antispasmodic properties
and anti-inflammatory, especially when applied topically. The main
components of its flowers include phenolic compounds, essentially
flavonoids such as apigenin or quercetin. Some studies indicate that
Topical apigenin inhibits acute and subacute skin inflammation in rats, by
which could be especially useful in cases of dermatitis (Man et al, 2015).
These same compounds could be responsible for its effects.
antimicrobials (Móriczs, 2013). Studies indicate that topical chamomile
reduces wound area and healing time in animals.
* Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is a shrub native to forests
humid areas of eastern North America (Canada and the United States). The leaves of
Witch hazel contains a high percentage of tannins and flavonoids. It has been used
traditionally for its astringent, vasoconstrictive and anti-inflammatory properties
anti-inflammatory. The astringent effect of tannins promotes a
healing and antihemorrhagic action. It has been observed that the extract of
Witch hazel is able to inhibit in vivo some enzymes that contribute to the
degradation of connective tissue (when the activity of these increases)
enzymes, vascular integrity is compromised). The anti-inflammatory effect
appears to be related to the inhibition of mediators involved in the
inflammatory processes.
In addition, it contains other natural compounds such as
proanthocyanins that give it antioxidant properties. A study
demonstrated the benefits of applying witch hazel to skin with eczema, as observed
a reduction in inflammation and associated itching.
