Description
Isaderm gel 15 g is a topical treatment for mild to moderate localized, acute moist dermatitis in dogs, also known as hot spots. It combines betamethasone valerate, which reduces inflammation and itching, with fusidic acid, an antibiotic effective against staphylococci.
What is it for
It relieves itching, inflammation, and infection of sudden, moist lesions on a dog's skin. Betamethasone acts on inflammation and itching, while fusidic acid targets the bacteria that often complicate these lesions.
How it is used
Clean the area and trim any hair covering the wound. Apply a thin film of gel twice a day for at least 5 days, and continue for 2 more days after healing. The treatment should not exceed 7 days. If the dog scratches or licks the area, a protective collar is recommended.
For what animals
For dogs only. Not for use on cats. Use with caution on small dogs and puppies under 12 weeks old.
Composition and presentation
Betamethasone valerate and fusidic acid topical gel. 15 g tube.
Possible Side Effects and Precautions
Topical corticosteroids can thin the skin, cause capillary fragility, and delay healing; hypersensitivity is possible. It is not used for pyoderma, fungal infections, Cushing's disease, extensive or ulcerated lesions, or lesions of parasitic or viral origin. Blood glucose levels should be monitored in diabetic dogs. If you notice anything unusual, consult your veterinarian.
FAQ
How long does it take for Isaderm gel to take effect?
Improvement is usually seen within a few days. Even so, complete the treatment for the prescribed time to ensure the injury heals.
How many times a day should it be applied?
Twice a day, in a thin film over the clean, trimmed hair lesion, for a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 7 in total.
What do I do if my dog licks the gel?
Put an Elizabethan collar on him to prevent him from licking the area. Licking it can cause systemic effects from the betamethasone. If he has already licked it, notify your veterinarian.
Can I use Isaderm gel on cats?
No. It is specifically formulated for dogs.
What side effects can it cause?
Thinning of the skin, capillary fragility, hypersensitivity, and slower healing. It is only partially absorbed by the skin, so it should not be applied to large areas.
Is it suitable for any skin injury?
No. It is for localized, mild to moderate acute moist dermatitis. It is not used for pyoderma, fungal infections, or extensive lesions, and the diagnosis must be confirmed by a veterinarian.
